  1. Go to the software download website found at http://network.software.vt.edu.
  2. Once you have logged in, click on 'LabVIEW Software' and click on 'LabVIEW Spring 2015 Student download.'
    1. If you cannot see LabVIEW as one of the main links, you will need to talk to software distribution located in Torgersen Bridge, open from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
  3. Accept the license agreement on the next page and hit next to continue.
  4. Click on the blue hyperlink that says 'Download LabVIEW Spring 2015 Student download - LabViewSpr2015-s.exe' located in the middle of the screen.
  5. The download should automatically start, choose to save the file to your desktop or some other convenient place. If the download did not automatically start, it may have been blocked by your web-browser (Internet Explorer often blocks downloads). If that is the case, look right below your address bar for a thin grey line about the attempted download. Click on the grey line and then choose a download location.
  6. Once the file has finished downloading, double-click on it. If a User Account Control dialog appears, select 'Yes' to allow the installer to proceed. When a window titled 'WinZip Self-Extractor' appears, select 'Setup' to unzip the installer files.
  7. When the installer files are finished extracting, the installer will start automatically.
  8. Un-check the box for activation over the internet
  9. Click next a few times until it asks for your name and organization. You can enter any name you like; the serial number should be already filled in for you.
  10. Click next a few more times using defaults until it finally starts installing.
    1. IMPORTANT: Once it has finished installing, make sure the 'Run License Manager' box is UNCHECKED. If you do not uncheck this box, you will not be able to use the 30-day evaluation period while you wait on your registration key.
    2. A Window will ask you to restart the computer before the installation is done. Make sure all of your work is saved and click restart.
  11. Now you need to begin the Labview activation process.
  12. Go to your start bar in the bottom left corner of your desktop. Go to All Programs. Then scroll down the list to NI Instruments. Then open up the NI License Manager.
    1. Note: During installation, two pop up windows will appear, do not close them.
  13. In the middle of the NI License Manager application, you will see a button that says Display Computer Information. Click on it and leave this window open for later.
  14. Go to the URL http://www.ita.vt.edu/labview_registration with a web browser. Enter your VT PID and password to login.
  15. On the next screen, enter the computer name and computer id in the web page displayed and click Next and then Finish.
  16. NOTE: An email containing your LabVIEW license key will be emailed to you from VT_LabView_license_manager@vt.edu within 7 days. You may now start the LabVIEW application. You may use the 7-day evaluation license until the official license is returned to you by email.
  17. After you have received the email containing your license file, save the file to your hard drive (DO NOT OPEN THE FILE).
  18. Open the NI License Manager (see step 16) and go to Options > Install License File.. to activate LabVIEW.
